Kelliher’s fourth union endorsement demonstrates commitment to jobs, working families

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Minnesota State Council announced today that Speaker of the House, Rep. Margaret Anderson Kelliher (DFL-Minneapolis) has earned their endorsement for Governor of Minnesota. This is Kelliher’s fourth union endorsement, adding to a broad and growing grassroots coalition of working Minnesotans from every corner of the state.

“Our members, from Rochester to the Twin Cities to Moorhead to Duluth and the Iron Range, need a governor who will get electricians off the bench and back on the job,” said Tom Koehler, President of the IBEW Minnesota State Council. “Minnesota needs a peoples-leader and we believe that person, that peoples-leader is Margaret Anderson Kelliher.”

Former Minnesota Governor Wendell Anderson today announced he is supporting Margaret Anderson Kelliher’s candidacy for governor.  Anderson has added his name to a list of more than 1,000 people who have publicly pledged their support to the Margaret for Governor campaign.

“We know Margaret is ready to lead because she’s done it before,” the former governor wrote in a letter released by the campaign.

Anderson drew comparisons to his time in office when he championed finance and education reforms in the face of soaring property taxes.  The legislation, known today as the Minnesota Miracle, relieved severe disparities between rich and poor school districts.

“Today, we face a similar, if not more severe, set of challenges,” Governor Anderson wrote.  “Margaret Anderson Kelliher is a proven leader, ready to guide our state toward long-term solutions.”

“Our Executive Board spent eight hours screening nine of the current candidates for governor,” said George Plautz, President of AFSCME Council 65. “After hearing their views on issues of real concern to working people such as health care, education and jobs and considering who has the best chance to be elected, Anderson Kelliher was our choice,” he added.

Greater Minnesota AFSCME Council 65 represents approximately 13,000 Minnesota local government, school, hospital, nursing home and non-profit employees outside the Twin Cities.

“Our members worry about how to pay for health care or whether they will be laid off on a daily basis.  We need a governor who really cares about those issues and can do something about them,” stated Steve Preble, Council 65 Executive Director.  “We believe that person is Margaret Anderson Kelliher,” Preble added.

“This was a difficult decision for our board.   All of the candidates who screened would make an excellent governor and shared our values.  But, when we finally had to decide, it was clear that not only would Anderson Kelliher make a terrific governor but her ability to build coalitions made her both the most electable and meant she could deliver on the issues that matter most to working people,” stated Steve Preble.

Minneapolis – St. Paul, MN – After a comprehensive interview and screening process, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 has endorsed Speaker of the House, Rep.

SHOREVIEW – The Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE) has endorsed Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher for governor.

“We believe Speaker Kelliher’s proven leadership skills and her ability to manage the state in difficult times make her the strongest candidate,” said MAPE Statewide President Chet Jorgenson. “Speaker Kelliher is willing to bring people together to solve problems in a crisis. She has a history of respect for state workers and the jobs they do. It is for these reasons that MAPE’s elected officials endorsed Speaker Kelliher for governor of Minnesota.”

For two days, MAPE elected officials met one-on-one with candidates who want to be the next governor of Minnesota. This was a monumental, first-ever political conference hosted by MAPE Nov. 9 and 10 in Roseville.

All candidates for governor of Minnesota were given a full opportunity to meet with MAPE’s elected officials and to tell them why they are the best candidate.

Anderson Kelliher receives a critical endorsement in her campaign for Governor of Minnesota
