Stories From the Road: DFL-endorsed Kelliher Meets with Workers in Keewatin, Talks Jobs
KEEWATIN, MN – DFL-endorsed candidate for Governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher visited Magnetation, Inc. today in Keewatin on the second stop of her “No Stone Unturned” jobs tour.
Magnetation, a company partnered with the Iron Range
Resources Board, recovers magnetic hematite from tailings basins, and
effectively has found a way to extract more iron ore from leftover mining
deposits. It is a value-added process that turns what otherwise would be waste
into a product capable of helping rebuild Minnesota’s Iron Range economy.
“Today I saw the rebirth of the western Mesabi Range,” said Kelliher. “What is happening here in Keewatin is proof that hard work partnered with cutting edge innovation and targeted state investments is the recipe for job creation in our state.”
Magnetation is growing quickly and plans to open a second plant, creating 50 new jobs and expanding construction on the Iron Range. The average union worker at Magnetation earns $50-60 thousand dollars per year.
“This company is doing good work and providing good-paying jobs for hard working people. As Governor, I will partner with businesses like Magnetation to grow jobs and rebuild Minnesota’s economy – one job at a time.”
As Governor, Kelliher will bring jobs to the Range and every Minnesota community by:
- Bringing $1.4 billion home from Washington for good-paying jobs in hospitals and clinics
- Invest in high-priority infrastructure projects like the DECC
- Expanding and growing small businesses through low-interest loans and better access to capital
- Educating Minnesota’s workforce for the next generation of jobs
- Encouraging new innovation in science, biotechnology, and high-tech development
- Reforming DEED from top to bottom to more aggressively create and retain jobs in Minnesota
- Growing the clean energy economy with investments in green manufacturing and retrofitting
DFL-endorsed Kelliher is bringing her blueprint for job creation to communities across the state over the next several months. She will be gathering input from Minnesotans, and considering every good idea that will create jobs and opportunity in our state.
“I want to hear every good idea, every great example, and every opportunity to create Minnesota jobs,” Kelliher said. “As your Governor, I won’t rest until 214,000 Minnesotans are back on the job. That’s what’s at stake in this election. That’s what I’m fighting for. That’s why I’m running to be your Governor.”
Kelliher was joined today at Magnetation by Reps. Tom Rukavina, Tom Anzelc and Loren Solberg.
