The next generation of biofuels will power our rural economies and create jobs and opportunity in Minnesota. As Governor, Margaret Anderson Kelliher will invest in programs like Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead’s innovative two-year research-based associate degree in Biofuels Technology. The program trains students for the next generation of jobs in biofuels and clean energy production. Margaret’s work helped deliver $5.4 million to the college in the 2010 bonding bill for the construction of the school’s first library and expanded classroom space.

Safe roads and sturdy bridges are critical to creating a strong economic climate that will support homegrown businesses and Minnesota industries. As Governor, Margaret Anderson Kelliher will get people back to work repairing Minnesota crumbling roads, bridges and the critical infrastructure.

The DeSoto Bridge in St. Cloud – now known as the Granite City Crossing–was slated to close because it was structurally unsound. The bridge closure would have seriously disrupted the lives of the more than 31,000 people who use the bridge each day. For the people driving to and from work, semi trucks carrying goods in and out of the city, school buses, emergency workers and others depend on the safety of this bridge it was crucial to rebuild this bridge as soon as possible.

The Central Minnesota Ethanol Co-Op (CMEC) in Little Falls is an example of the innovative work being done in rural Minnesota to develop sustainable biofuels. Co-ops and companies like CMEC are making significant contributions to creating more prosperous and sustainable rural economies. As Governor, Margaret Anderson Kelliher will bring new energy to economic development in Minnesota by investing in the next generation of sustainable biofuels.

Through the support of the NextGen Energy grant, CMEC will be on the cutting edge of cellulosic energy development and production. They received the grant to design and construct the first commercial scale cellulosic energy facility in Minnesota. The most important job of Minnesota’s next governor will be leading our state successfully to economic recovery – and getting people back to work. I’m personally fully committed to leading this effort.

Here’s how I’ll do it. As governor, I’ll:

Grow Minnesota businesses;
Invest in Minnesotans;
Institute a new approach for economic growth; and
Position Minnesota for the future.

When elected governor, my administration will immediately get to work addressing each of these areas in order to create jobs and get people working again.

I believe a diverse economy makes for a stable, strong economy – and our small businesses and farms are at the heart of our state’s economy. Growing up on a family farm in Blue Earth County, I know the value of our rural areas and the contributions businesses and workers in these areas provide. That’s why my plan supports all businesses throughout Minnesota.
